COVID-19 Response

pleaseread.JPG

Community response to the threat of the COVID-19 virus is continually evolving. The following is the Face-Up First Swimming response plan as of today, March 11, 2020 at 7:30 PM. Please keep checking back prior to your next lesson for possible updates.

Please read this entire post. This is important potentially life-saving information.

Coach Shelby and I will continue our swimming lessons at the dates/times previously scheduled. See below for some changes to lesson format, and recommended illness prevention behaviors.

  • $5 PRACTICE & PLAY SESSIONS: All Practice & Play sessions have been cancelled until further notice.

  • INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAM: (3 & 4 swimmers to 1 coach lessons): We will conduct all of these lessons as private lessons. Each swimmer will receive a continuous ten-minute lessons instead of taking turns with another swimmers. Isolating swimmers for their lessons will reduce contact between swimmers while maintaining the same instructional time as before. Swimmers will participate in the order their names are listed on the website schedules. Families with all of their swimmers in one lesson time slot, and other groups who would prefer to swim together, may continue to use the taking-turns format of instruction. Just let us know when you arrive. Plan on being one-on-one for ten minutes unless your entire group has agreed to our standard format. Please be on time for lessons. Also, we appreciate any help from the parents in expediting the hand-offs.

  • DEVELOPMENTAL PROGRAM: (25 Club & Voyagers): We will conduct these lessons as usual, same time, same swimmers, same lanes. We will also provide an alternate time to swim. If you do not want your swimmer in a group, he/she may swim in a lap lane on Saturday or Sunday on a first come, first served basis. I will post the available lap swim times by this Friday evening. Coach Shelby and I will provide a written practice for the swimmers using lap lanes, but all swimmers must each have their own supervision by an adult. Because of this alternate schedule, all Practice and Play sessions have been cancelled until further notice.

  • DECK & LOCKER ROOM: Please observe social distancing while waiting/watching on deck. (The CDC recommends six feet.) Arrive at the pool already dressed to swim. Minimize the time spent in the locker room. After lessons, please get dressed and exit the facility.

  • SPLASH MEETS: Meets are cancelled until further notice.

  • ILLNESS PREVENTION BEHAVIORS: Continue to practice good hygiene and other illness prevention behaviors. This list is from the CDC.

    • Clean your hands often.

    • Avoid close contact.

    • Stay home when you are sick.

    • Cover coughs and sneezes.

    • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces.

  • SAFE SWIMMING BEHAVIORS: Practice safe swimming behaviors. The following list is from the online course Water Safety Education for Parents and Caregivers. The CDC has more information on safe swimming behaviors.

YOU can help keep the water safe for everyone.

    • Refrain from swimming when you are sick, and especially when you have diarrhea. This is best way to keep everyone safe from illness.

    • Avoid swallowing pool water or even getting it in your mouth.

    • Shower before swimming and wash your hands after using the toilet or changing diapers.

    • Take children on bathroom breaks or check diapers often.

    • Change diapers in a bathroom and not at poolside and thoroughly clean the diaper changing area.

    • Notify pool staff if your child has an accident or vomits in the pool.

The following is posted on our website year round. Now is a good time to take another look. Webpage: It’s your choice

It's Your Choice

Swimming pool businesses, water parks, hotels, and water front facilities do their best to provide a safe environment for your activities. You are responsible for making good choices. You are responsible for selecting the programs and activities suited to your skills, abilities, and health. By electing to use the facilities and participate, you assume all risk for any harm or injury you sustain. By your voluntary participation as a participant or spectator, you could be injured. Take responsibility. Do not take risks or do activities that may not be appropriate. Ask questions. If you have any questions about your health and how it might be affected by exercise, by being in the water, or by other activities at a facility, contact your doctor and obtain permission before participating. A complete physical is recommended before beginning any exercise program. Pay attention to your surroundings. Be aware of the presence of others while you participate. Do not engage in activities that could injure others. Report any unusual significant hazard during your presence or participation and remove yourself from participation. If you bring belongings, you are responsible for their care and safety. They could be lost, stolen, or damaged. Contact a staff member if you have any problems or concerns.

For every activity in and near water, finish with the same number of children that you started with. It's your responsibility. It's your choice.

Coach Shelby and I rarely cancel events due to weather conditions. We often arrive at a pool long before the weather turns bad. We're already here, so we keep teaching. We try to stick to our schedule whenever possible. Weather conditions can change quickly and can vary dramatically from neighborhood to neighborhood. Whether or not to venture out on severe weather days is also your choice. Make good choices for your family.

It's your choice.
