COVID-19 Response Update
Community response to the threat of the COVID-19 virus is continually evolving. The following is the Face-Up First Swimming response plan as of today, Thursday, April 30. My next update will be posted on Thursday, May 21. Please read this update and also check back on the 21st. Thanks! Be safe. -Jeanie
Restrictions are being relaxed. Coach Shelby and I want to comply with all health directives from city, county, and state authorities, as well as from OHB and iNspire, minimize opportunities for exposure to the COVID-19 virus, and maximize opportunities for effective swimming instruction. Here is what’s next:
All group lessons - DEV and VOY - will be suspended for the summer session. Coach Shelby and I will only be teaching INST (Instructional) Lessons.
This was the most difficult step to take. Coach Shelby and I did not want to cancel any lessons. However, we do not believe that we can keep the swimmers physically distant from one another in a group setting. Also, group lessons bring larger groups of parents into proximity at the pool. We have not canceled any group lessons for fall. Hopefully, we can resume Developmental and Voyager classes then.
Group lessons swimmers are welcome and encouraged to switch to Instructional lessons. There is plenty of room on both schedules, and it’s a great opportunity to get individualized help with stroke improvement. Alternately, I teach remote lessons. If you have access to a pool, these are another option for summer. Click to view the Session Page that has links to summer schedules/registration and remote lessons.
All Instructional (INST) lessons will be reformatted from three swimmers for thirty minutes to individual ten-minute lessons. The tot dock will not be used. This provides the same amount of instructional time per swimmer, while minimizing contact with other swimmers. Both Coach Shelby and I have always taught many ten-minute lessons each week. We are well familiar and practiced at maximizing that time for each swimmer.
Summer Lesson Policies, updated 4/30/2020
Please be on time, but arrive no earlier than ten minutes before your ten-minute lesson start time.
Have your swimmer shower and dress out in their swimming suit at home.
At this time, OHB is requiring that masks/face coverings be worn while on campus.
Enter the facility through the front door under the green awning. Use the restroom, if needed before your lesson.
Enter the pool room and walk all the way across the deck to the far side. There will be six sectioned-off areas of bench near where we will be teaching.
Have your swimmer next to the pool at your designated start time. We want to have a quick transition between swimmers and give everyone all of their time.
Return to your bench spot during the lesson. Please do not move about the facility.
Take your child from the coach at the conclusion of your lesson. Have your swimmer put on a coverup or clothes directly over their suit.
Walk towards the deep end of the pool and exit through the back door towards the tennis courts. Do not exit through the facility front door.
This plan provides for limiting the number of people in the facility at any one time, distancing, and one-way traffic through the facility, thereby minimizing contact between families.
Keep your swimmers home when they are sick. Do not come to the pool if you are sick.
If at all possible, please have only one adult accompany the swimmer(s), and do not bring non-swimming siblings or other visitors.
Clear your spot at the bench as quickly as possible after your lesson to make room for the next family.
Uniform policy will be in effect. Coaches will still provide caps and goggles, although we recommend that you bring your own.
Let your swimmers know in advance that Coach Shelby and I will be wearing face shields .
Remember, it’s always YOUR CHOICE.
